The price increases on the energy markets threaten the profitability of companies. Many companies are therefore moving towards building their own production capacities for green electricity. "This makes costs predictable for a long time", says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream group. "In addition, companies meet sustainability requirements in this way." For companies, the importance of such projects will only increase.

The proposal was an election campaign: Germany should be divided into several electricity price regions. The aim of the campaigners, mainly from Lower Saxony, was that the north, where there is a lot of wind and sun for green electricity, would be better off if electricity prices were to fall. A nice relief for the people - and thus for the voters. The proposal quickly disappeared from the scene. Yet it would be well worth a sober consideration, because the charm of the idea does not lie in a few cents lower electricity prices for consumers in northern Germany. It lies in a steering effect that ensures lower electricity prices everywhere in Germany.

Electricity costs have skyrocketed in the wake of the Ukraine war, placing a heavy burden on many businesses and households. A massive expansion of renewable energies would not only increase security of supply and reduce CO2 emissions. "Increased production of wind and solar energy, as studies show, can also ensure cheaper electricity prices," explains Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group.

Germany is one of Europe's pioneers in renewable energies. The vast sums of money invested in recent years to promote and build renewables is now showing its worth: With strong winds over Europe in recent days, wind turbines produced as much electricity that prices in Germany were lower compared to all of its neighbouring countries. And finally fell back into bearable regions. - A commentary by Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group.
