Europe's solar technology manufacturers are sounding the alarm: China is flooding the market with its dumping modules, they say, and thus endangering the local industry. Calls for government support and punitive tariffs are already being heard. "Politicians should act extremely cautiously here," warns Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group. "Because firstly, it is questionable whether there is any price dumping at all, and moreover, the cheap modules are a blessing for renewables in Europe."
The market for solar technology is once again abundant. Gone are the days of supply bottlenecks and material shortages. Instead, supply is pushing down prices, which is also making the construction of solar power plants more cost-effective. "The bottleneck in the expansion of photovoltaics is now the grid connection", explains Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group.
The German government is stepping up the pace in photovoltaics. In the next few years, the expansion is to be multiplied, and more solar systems are to be installed on roofs in particular. Something similar is happening beyond Germany's borders: More and more countries are succeeding in adding capacity of more than one gigawatt per year. "The pace is welcome, but also necessary in terms of climate protection", commented Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group. "To maintain and increase it, bottlenecks in storage and grids must be managed."
In the US, Joe Biden manages to pass a law that brings investment to the US on a very large scale. Fighting inflation is the official label, green energy and economic stimulus are in there, it costs billions and attracts billions in investment. "In Germany, on the other hand, there is discussion about an industrial electricity price that will bring exactly the opposite," says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group.
