September 2020 was one of the weakest wind months in years. Only 67 percent of the wind target was reached. For photovoltaic systems, on the other hand, target achievement was lavish at 114 percent. However, the spread across various renewable energies and regions clearly smoothed out the outlier months. "Viewed over the year, wind is still at 104 percent of the target, and solar is even significantly higher", says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group.
"September was a very weak wind month", says Voigt. Even the slightly windier last days of the month did not help to significantly improve the result. The overall target achievement was 67 percent. "Looking at the year as a whole, the rate is 104 percent, so there is still a good buffer", says Voigt. However, this has been melting away for some time.
In terms of solar power production, Germany is at 114 percent, well above the forecast. Spain managed 99 percent of the expected production. Italy, which was shaken by bad weather, only achieved 93 percent of its target for September 2020. In the entire portfolio across Europe, production was two percent above the forecast.
Renewable energies are benefiting from the fact that new plants are being built throughout Europe. "The more plants are installed, the smaller the differences between countries and regions", says Voigt. "In addition, the fluctuations for wind and solar plants very often balance each other out", Voigt continues. For investors in renewable energies, a broadly diversified portfolio means smoothing out the results and stabilizing the yields. "In this respect it is not surprising that more and more institutional investors are pushing into this asset class", says Voigt. Thanks to recurring income, returns and earnings can be planned easily, regardless of the development of the capital markets.
